Overview
Lines of Action is a modern abstract strategy game with a single, elegant goal: bring all of your pieces together into one connected group. Pieces count as connected if they touch on any side or corner, so a diagonal link counts just as much as a straight one. The clever movement rule — you move exactly as far as there are pieces on a line — makes every part of the board interact, and either player completing their group ends the game at once. Play three AI levels or a friend in pass-and-play.
Movement
A piece moves in a straight line — horizontally, vertically or diagonally — and must move exactly as many squares as there are pieces of either colour on that entire line, counting itself. You may jump over your own pieces but not over an opponent’s, and you may land on an opponent’s piece to capture it.
Winning
The game ends the instant either side has all of its remaining pieces in one connected group. Capturing can help by reducing clutter, but it can also backfire: taking an opponent’s piece might connect their remaining group and hand them the win. Because either player’s connection ends the game, you must watch both armies at once.
Strategy and tips
Count carefully before you move — the number of pieces on a line changes through the game, so the same piece can travel different distances turn to turn. Draw your pieces toward a central cluster while keeping an eye on any stray piece that is hard to bring home. Think twice before capturing, since removing a piece from a crowded line also changes how far everything on it can move.
Controls
Tap one of your pieces to see its legal moves, then tap a highlighted square to move or capture. Use the menu to choose your difficulty or Local Pass & Play, and to restart.
