Card Hockey

Match ranks to score goals for your country across a fast three-round card-hockey match.

Overview
Card Hockey is an original GameYantra creation that turns an ordinary deck of cards into a fast, noisy hockey match played for national pride. You and your partner sit at the top of the rink against the two side players, and instead of pucks and sticks you score goals by matching card ranks as the play flows around the table. Over three quick rounds the ‘match rank’ keeps shifting with every card played, so you are constantly watching what is live and setting up your partner for the next goal. Jacks add a layer of tactics by blocking the current rank, letting you shut down an opponent who is about to score. It is a lively, social twist on trick-style card play — easy to pick up in a round or two, but with enough team coordination and timing to keep four players engaged. Because your goals and your partner’s count for your country while the side players score for the other side, every hand becomes a small contest of two against two.
About the game

You and the player opposite you form one national team. The two side players form the opposing team. A standard 52-card deck is dealt evenly.

How to play
  1. The latest normal card sets the active match rank.
  2. Play that same rank, in any suit, to score a goal.
  3. A Jack blocks the table and clears the active rank.
  4. After a goal, the table is collected and play continues.
Match format

Each player receives 13 cards. A match lasts three rounds, with the starting player changing each round.

Winning

Your goals combine with your opposite partner goals. The country with the most goals after round three wins.

Tips
  • Watch the active match rank.
  • Save matching ranks to set up your partner.
  • Use Jacks to block opponents.
Frequently asked questions
Is Card Hockey free to play? Yes — free in your browser, no sign-up. How many players? Four — you and your partner against two opponents. How is the match rank set? By the rank of the last normal card played; suits do not matter for scoring. What do Jacks do? They block the current rank, and the next non-Jack card then sets a fresh one.
