Overview
Pig is a push-your-luck dice game played with a single die. The first player to reach 100 points wins. On the web you play solo against a computer opponent.
The whole game is one decision, repeated: roll again, or stop and keep what you have.
The rule that makes it a game
On your turn you roll as many times as you like, adding each result to a turn score that is not yet yours.
Rolling a 1 is a Pig Out: your entire turn score is wiped and your turn ends immediately. Nothing already banked is lost, but everything accumulated this turn goes.
Hold at any point to bank the turn score into your total and pass the die. You cannot hold on a turn score of zero — you must roll at least once.
The odds
Each roll is one of six equally likely faces. Five of them add between 2 and 6 to your turn score; one of them takes all of it. So every roll risks the whole turn score for an average gain of 4 across the five safe faces.
That is the entire tension of Pig: the more you have accumulated this turn, the more a 1 costs you, and the odds of rolling one never change.
The computer opponent
The AI plays a fixed threshold strategy: it holds once its turn score reaches 20, or earlier if banking would take it to 100 and win.
Because that threshold is fixed and public, it is a benchmark you can play against directly — push past 20 when you are behind and it cannot respond, or bank early when you are ahead and it will keep taking the same risk.
Winning
A turn score is only counted when you hold. Reaching or passing 100 banked points ends the game immediately, so the last turn of a close game is usually a long one.
Controls
Tap Roll to roll the die and Hold to bank your turn score. Hold is disabled until you have rolled at least once. Both totals and the current turn score are displayed throughout, and a Pig Out is announced when it happens.
