Overview
Disc Flip is a classic two-player strategy game of flanking and flipping, in the tradition of Reversi and Othello. Players take turns placing discs of their colour, and any of the opponent’s discs caught in a straight line between the new disc and another of your own flip to your colour. The lead can swing wildly right up to the final move, so it is easy to learn but full of sharp tactics. Play three AI levels or a friend in pass-and-play.
How to play
You may only place a disc where it traps at least one straight line of enemy discs between your new disc and another of your own — horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Every trapped disc in those lines flips to your colour. The board rings the legal squares for you, so you always know where you may play.
Skips and winning
If you have no legal placement, your turn is skipped and your opponent plays again. When neither side can move — usually because the board is full — the discs are counted, and whoever has more discs of their colour on the board wins.
Strategy and tips
Corners are the key: a disc in a corner can never be flipped, so corners are the strongest squares on the board. Be wary of playing next to an empty corner, because it usually hands that corner to your opponent. Counter-intuitively, holding fewer discs in the midgame is often good — it keeps your options open and forces your opponent into weak moves. Fight for edges and corners, not raw disc count, until the very end.
