Overview
Kōnane is a traditional Hawaiian strategy game, sometimes called Hawaiian checkers. It is an elegant game of pure capturing: the board begins completely full of black and white marbles, and from the very first move every turn removes pieces. There is no building of position — the whole game is a steadily emptying board where the last player able to move wins. Play against three AI levels or a friend in pass-and-play.The opening
The board starts entirely full. To open, Black removes one of their own marbles and then White removes one of theirs, creating the only two empty spaces the game begins with. Those gaps are what make the first jumps possible.Movement and captures
Every move is a capture. You jump one of your marbles straight over an adjacent opponent marble into the empty space just beyond, removing the marble you jumped. Jumps are horizontal or vertical only — never diagonal. If the marble you just moved can jump again, it may continue in the same turn, but you are never forced to keep jumping.Winning
The game ends when a player has no legal jump on their turn — that player loses, and the last player able to move wins. Because every move removes a piece, the board empties quickly and the endgame becomes about leaving yourself a move while denying one to your opponent.Strategy and tips
Think ahead about who runs out of moves first. Multi-jumps are powerful but can strip the board of the very pieces you need later, so do not grab every capture on offer. Try to break the board into regions where you hold the last move, and watch the edges and corners, where mobility is most limited.Controls
Tap one of your marbles, then tap the highlighted landing square to jump and capture. When a further jump is available you may take it or stop. Use the menu to choose difficulty or Local Pass & Play, and to restart.
