Overview
Zabboo is a four-player trick-taking card game where the goal is to empty your hand before everyone else — and the last player still holding cards loses the round. What sets it apart is the Zabboo move: instead of following suit, you can dump a set of off-suit cards on the table, forcing whoever is winning the trick to pick up the entire pile. It turns an ordinary trick game into a battle of timing and revenge.
How to play
The game uses a single 52-card deck, dealt evenly so each of the four players starts with thirteen cards. The player holding the Ace of Spades must open the round by playing it. After the lead, every player must follow the led suit if they can, with Aces high, ranking down through King, Queen, Jack and 10 to the 2.
The Zabboo move
The signature move gives the game its name. Instead of following suit, you may play a set of cards that are all of one off-suit — a Zabboo. When a Zabboo is played, the trick leader or the player currently winning the trick must pick up every card on the table, taking a heavy load back into their hand. After a Zabboo, the player who dumped leads the next trick.
Winning tricks
If everyone follows suit normally, the highest card of the led suit wins the trick, those table cards are discarded, and the winner leads the next trick. The push and pull between clean tricks and sudden Zabboo dumps is the heart of the game, and a well-timed Zabboo can bury an opponent who was cruising.
Strategy and tips
Play low cards so you are not the one winning a trick when a Zabboo lands — whoever is on top of the pile at that moment collects it all. Avoid leading when you can, since leaders are exposed to the dump, and keep a spare off-suit set of your own so you can Zabboo an opponent at the right moment. Going out by playing your last card as a Zabboo is especially satisfying.
Controls
When you hold the Ace of Spades you must lead it; otherwise tap a card to lead or follow suit. To play a Zabboo, select cards of a single off-suit and confirm. The game enforces following suit and handles picking up the pile automatically.
