Overview

Card Chess is an original GameYantra invention that fuses two very different classics: the deep strategy of chess and the shifting luck of cards. You still play toward checkmate on a familiar board, but every move must first be unlocked by a card from a small, visible hand — so you cannot simply move the piece you want, only the pieces your cards permit this turn. Because both players’ three-card hands are laid face up, you can read your opponent’s options as clearly as your own, and plan around what they can and cannot do. Higher-ranked cards unlock more powerful piece movement, a trump rank can break the usual hierarchy, and you can lose not only to a traditional Checkmate but to a ‘Cardmate’ — when the board offers you an escape from check but your cards allow no legal move to reach it. The result is a fresh puzzle every turn: chess players will recognise the tactics, but the card constraint forces genuinely new decisions.

About the game

Card Chess combines a standard chessboard with a public three-card hand for each player. Every move is constrained by the card you choose.

Turn sequence

Select a card from your hand.
Press Play to commit it.
Move one chess piece permitted by that card.
Press End to draw a replacement and pass the turn.

9: Pawn
10: Bishop
Jack: Rook
Queen: Queen
King: King
Ace: Knight

Higher ranks also unlock lower-ranked movements.

Trump

A card matching the revealed trump rank may move any piece, regardless of the normal hierarchy.

Checkmate and Cardmate

Checkmate wins normally. Cardmate occurs when a chess escape exists but none of the checked player's cards permits it. Stalemate is a draw.

Discarding

You may discard a selected card only when your hand contains no legal card move.
