Overview
Challenge is a four-player bluffing card game — a two-deck take on the classic game of Cheat — that has as much to do with your poker face as with your cards. On your turn you lay cards face down and announce what they are, working up through the ranks, but nothing forces you to tell the truth: you can quietly slip in cards you do not have and hope nobody notices. Any opponent who doubts you can call ‘Challenge!’, and then the cards are turned over — whoever is wrong, the bluffer caught red-handed or the accuser who guessed wrong, has to pick up the entire pile. That single mechanic makes Challenge a wonderful test of how well you really know the people you are playing with, and how convincingly you can lie to them. The first player to shed every card wins, so it becomes a balance of unloading cards quickly while keeping your bluffs believable and catching everyone else’s.
About the game

Challenge uses two standard 52-card decks and four players. The first player to discard every card wins.

How to play
  1. Select one or more cards and place them face down.
  2. Announce that the cards match the current rank, whether true or not.
  3. The next player may add cards, pass, or challenge the previous claim.
  4. Continue until somebody successfully empties their hand.
Resolving a challenge

The previous play is revealed. A caught bluffer takes the whole pile. If the claim was honest, the challenger takes it instead.

Tips and strategy
  • Track which ranks have appeared and how many copies remain plausible.
  • Mix truthful plays with modest bluffs.
  • Watch opponents with very small hands carefully.
  • A failed challenge can refill your hand, so choose the moment well.
